According to LA Times, Pete Hammond and In Contention, The Last Station is being played by Sony Pictures Classics as a vehicle for a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Christopher Plummer, rather than for Best Actor. However, Sony is suggesting Plummer for Best Actor category for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Of the two films, The Last Station seems to be getting the more Oscar buzz for acting nominations.

ComingSoon.it (here or here) has six new video clips from The Last Station. The movie will be screened at The Rome Film Festival as an official selection on October 18 - 20, 2009. The movie will also be screened at the AFI Fest October 30 - November 7, 2009.

Sony Pictures Classics has an official site covering The Last Station and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, with some great high res photos.

Cinemablend - "Gay fave Ewan McGregor will play the son of Christopher Plummer in the upcoming film Beginners. The plot will apparently revolve around Ewan's character's discovery that his elderly father is not only terminally ill, but is also about to come out of the closet. They're currently casting for the father's "handsome younger boyfriend." Any fantasy casting picks? "

Comingsoon - Christopher Plummer has joined the cast of Priest. According to Chud   (and Director Scott Stewart's twitter.com/robotproof), Priest has been filming in and around Los Angeles. IMDB - "The story is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Madchen Amick, Stephen Moyer, Maggie Q., Christopher Plummer, Brad Dourif and Alan Dale all star."

September 30, 2009
This site is overdue for recent news updates, but here's some great awards buzz for The Last Station. It is rumored that Sony Classics will distribute the film, with an opening in December.

Sept. 29, 2009 - LA Times - 2009 awards season gets a 'Last'-minute entry, by Pete Hammond: "Helen Mirren, Christopher Plummer, James McAvoy and Paul Giamatti are going to try to shake up the awards season. Look for their new film, "The Last Station" -- written and directed by Michael Hoffman and based on the final months in the life of Leo Tolstoy, which premiered sans distribution at the Telluride Film Festival on Sept. 4 -- to be released by the specialty division of a major studio (with a slew of other art house contenders already this year including three more Best Actress possibilities) and opened in December in order to qualify for the Academy Awards."

"The movie provides a great comedic and dramatic showcase for its stars, Mirren and Plummer, as they tear into each other with the ferocity of a Russian version of "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf." Mirren, of course, is a recent Best Actress Oscar winner for "The Queen" but it's hard to believe Plummer, who turns 80 in December and made his film debut more than half a century ago (in 1958's "Stage Struck"), has never even been NOMINATED. Interesting that Plummer, who starred in 1965's Best Picture winner "The Sound Of Music" among many other Oscared movies, was only just invited to join the academy's actors branch as a voting member less than two years ago. As a dying Leo Tolstoy he certainly will have his best chance at a nomination (albeit against tough competition), especially in a year where he also has two other high-profile turns in the animated "Up" and the title role in another upcoming December entry, Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus." His brutally honest memoir, "In Spite Of Myself." was published last year."
