Christopher Plummer's comments:
NECN: "I do have some sort of understanding and sympathy for the man because there has to be some spark of humanity somewhere in him. That he was moved upstairs in such a comfortable position in the Basilica is to me quite shocking."
WBZ4: [There's a] very good scene in this where he meets the Pope and breaks down because of the pressures must have been extraordinary on him."

All of the notes are interesting.
Production Notes - pdf Excerpts

pg. 8
CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER plays the controversial Boston Cardinal Bernard Law, who was at the center of the scandal. “Christopher Plummer was the beginning, the middle, and the end of who we wanted to play Cardinal Law,” noted Kennedy. “He has been incredible. There was no other choice. Law is a tragic and flawed character of Shakespearian proportion.”

pg. 11
“Villains are wonderful to play, and there is always something about a villain that has a good side, somewhere hidden,” offered Plummer. “There has got to be something worthy behind the mask of villainy, and that’s what you look for in a role. He probably thought he was doing absolutely the right thing. Whether he did or not, it doesn’t matter because I must play him as if he did. Whether he was cowardly about it or not, he swept it under the rug, with the idea of ‘saving the church.’ Protecting the crime was a terrible misjudgment.”

pg. 13 - Bio
CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER (Cardinal Bernard Law) won his first Tony award for the title role in the musical "Cyrano." Plummer most recently completed his Tony-nominated performance as King Lear in Sir Jonathan Miller's heralded Lincoln Center production. Apart from "King Lear," his most recent Broadway success was his starring role in "Barrymore" for which he received another Tony award. He was also a leading actor with England’s National Theater and the Royal Shakespeare Company. A veteran of over 100 motion pictures, Plummer has starred in a host of notable films including "The Sound of Music," "The Man Who Would Be King," "Malcolm X," "Dolores Claiborne," "The Insider," "A Beautiful Mind" and "Nicholas Nickleby.” His latest film credits include the recently released "Alexander" and "National Treasure" and the upcoming “Syriana” with George Clooney, “Must Love Dogs” with Diane Lane and John Cusack and “The New World” with Colin Farrell. On television he has won two Emmy Awards and six nominations. His television credits include the mini-series "Nuremberg," "Hamlet At Elsinore" and "Moneychangers" - all Emmy-winning projects, as well as the five-time Emmy award-winning mini-series "The Thornbirds."

pg. 4
A few weeks prior to the start of principal photography on OUR FATHERS in June 2004, it was announced that Pope John Paul II appointed Cardinal Bernard F. Law to a ceremonial job overseeing one of the four major basilicas of Rome, St. Mary Major, granting the former archbishop of Boston a prestigious appointment one week before the Archdiocese of Boston announced that it was closing 65 parishes. The appointment infuriated critics who blamed Law for the clergy sexual abuse scandal.
